Heelgrinder Pop Imagery was founded in 1997 in Austin, Texas, as a vehicle for my independent design work. Currently based in San Antonio, I bring over 10 years of experience to the design table, and also have an extensive background in writing and marketing. My experience ranges from print and web design to copywriting. A specialty, and a favorite of mine, is creating cohesive branding campaigns.

My varied projects include designing for global web user interfaces, creating all collateral for a year-long art installation, multi-page publication design, business identity conception, e-commerce, and packaging design. Several of my package designs are in Target and Bed Bath & Beyond, as well as international markets.

As a designer, I embrace challenges. The communication and design process is fascinating, and nurturing a project from start to finish is unbelievably rewarding. My curiosity spurs me. I enjoy finding solutions to problems and learning new skills to enhance my abilities. I'm an eager and fast learner; a sponge that soaks up all things design oriented. My computer is meticulously organized, as are my fonts, of which I have over 50,000 — all arranged in folders by type style. I have a huge passion for typography, and I maximize the use of my collection. Since a great deal of my work is digital, I love the tangibility of a good piece of paper and a nice pen. I collect as many printed items as I can, which I archive for inspiration. I also save images and websites that catch my eye on the Net; a digital pack rat. I embrace my inner geek and find it pretty easy to communicate with engineers...I can appreciate a good conversation about CSS or Ajax. If I don't know how to do something, I'll learn. I'm an exhaustive reasearcher.

All through college and for several years after, I was an announcer on a classical/NPR radio station. During that time, I developed a children's classical music program called "Do Re Mi." Its tremendous local success led to the program being nationally syndicated and distributed through NPR. I wrote, produced, hosted, and directed "Do Re Mi," which was picked up by 78 radio stations across the US including the New York City market. That was an exciting career phase which contributed greatly to my future. Radio was not my destiny, though...it was design all along.

My portfolio includes work for clients all over the United States, including Chicago, New York, Seattle, Los Angeles, Miami, Las Vegas, Austin, San Francisco, and others.. I have international clients in Japan, Canada, and the United Kingdom as well. My background in design includes independent work, a stint at as a commercial web designer at The Lubbock Avalanche Journal newspaper, and a year as a Visiting Artist at Texas Tech University, in which I probably learned as much as I imparted.

My ability to accurately interpret clients’ visions has been the source for many compliments. Ideas fuel humankind, and I get much joy out of turning them into a visual reality.

I am completely self-taught and make use of every single day to grow my knowledge of design. My dual-degree in English and History has come in much more handy for me as a designer than I could have ever imagined. Spelling and grammar count! I have also added blogging to my varied skill set, which has combined my passion for design and writing.

Design is absolutely an indelible part of my life. It's a world I belong in. It changes constantly, and I embrace it.
